More About Your Speech Therapist

Laura received her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Syracuse University in 2013. She has worked in several settings - hospitals, clinics, schools - but throughout her career, AAC has been her focus and passion. She is proud to have spent several years working as an AAC specialist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and she is excited about bringing this knowledge and experience to the Hudson Valley.

Laura has had the pleasure of working with individuals from toddlerhood through early adulthood. Her clients have had many different medical diagnoses, including but not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Rett Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Leukodystrophies, and other various genetic disorders and neurodegenerative conditions. She has also supported clients following an acquired injury such as a stroke or traumatic brain injury.

Laura’s experience with AAC systems is vast; she has worked with all of the major AAC vendors, hardware/software options, and access methods (or how her clients interact with their system). Laura is committed to constantly continuing her education, staying up to date on the research, and sharing what she learns with her clients and their loved ones. She values working cohesively with her clients, their families, and their extended teams, embracing that change only happens when everyone works together. Outside of direct client care, Laura is passionate about inclusion and advocating for individuals with disabilities at the community level.

Laura is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and a member of the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC). She is licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania and holds a certificate as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities in New York State.
